Rockling
Rockling are a bit of a love or hate fish with anglers they will quite often rob a bait intended for much larger fish, there are a few varieties of Rockling being 3 bearded and 5 bearded rocklings, the 3 bearded is Orange in colour and the shore record is currently at 3lb 12 oz the 5 bearded rockling is a lot smaller in comparison and is brown with speckles on and a white belly. They are both long in body a bit like a miniaturized catfish, they have teeth as well so beware if getting your fingers near when unhooking.
Rigs:
Running ledger: Any strength of line leading to a size 1 - 2/0 hook.
Pulley dropper: Any strength of line leading to a size 1 - 2/0 hook.
Paternoster: Any strength of line leading to a size 1 – 2/0 hook.
Pulley rig: Any strength of line leading to a size 1 – 2/0 hook.
Baits:
Mackerel: Chunks whipped to hooks or strips of mackerel work well for rockling.
Squid: Whole small squid or cut slices of squid whipped to the hook.
Sand eel: Whole sand eels or sections of them whipped to the hook shank.
Bluey: sections of bluey wrapped up and shipped to your hook.
Grounds:
Rockling mainly inhabit rocky and stoney grounds but are also found around submerged wrecked and building platforms, Rockling are also a great bait if you want to catch large fish like conger or cod.
